This version of Away in a Manger is beloved by so many kids (who doesn’t love to sing “ASLEEP-asleep!?”)
Away in a Manger Bell Charts
These Away in a Manger Bell charts will work for anybody! You’re going to love the flexibility to choose harmony or melody, an 8-note set or extended set depending on what you have. And even modify the images for whatever color bells you’ve got! AND you can display easily on a TV!! This is a no-brainer.
Away in a Manger Hoberman Sphere
This song is perfect for practicing dynamics! Use the sphere to grow larger for louder sounds, and smaller for getting nice and quiet. Easy-peasy, no prep.
Depending on the size of your primary you could ask a child to come help you use the sphere. I personally don’t do that as too many kids would want a turn and we don’t have time for that.
Away in a Manger Finger Lights/Magic Crayon
The imagery in this song is easy to draw in the air with your finger! If you don’t have finger lights, you can just use your finger and have imaginary magic crayons.
Draw the following things in the air while singing and ask the children to follow your finger.
- Manger (a box with two X’s on each side will do)
- Star
- Moon (optional)
- Stable
- ZZZZ (for sleping)
After demonstrating, pass out finger lights and ask kids to follow along with you.
Ask them what shapes they notice you drawing. You can even get out the chalk and draw it on the board so you can put together the whole picture.
If using finger lights, turn off the lights and ask the kids to imagine the starry night when Jesus was born!
