Did you know the Book of Mormon has the phrase “Keep the Commandments” in it 44 times? Thats how many times I counted when I did a quick search in the gospel library app. This is a great song for starting off the year.
Keep the Commandments Bell Chart
Use your 8-note key of C or extended handbell set with this bell chart (link above)! You can even change the colors of the notes to match your set if it’s different than Kidsplay.
Keep the Commandments Rhythm Stick Rolling
For Senior Primary I used the pattern that Sharla Dance uses with “Come Follow Me” but for Junior Primary, I did something different (partners are optional but the movements are gentle and even worked for our sunbeams!) and it was so effective with the kids I had to share!
I think you could even effectively do the rolling from the bend in the elbow to the tip of the fingers for a challenge with the Senior Primary kids.
Keep the Commandments Bar Chart
This is very similar to a melody map, but is visually a little different. I treat this like crack the code! For senior primary I will usually mix up the pages and ask them to put them in order. For junior primary I will ask them to help me figure out what is going on with everything in order.
Keep the Commandments Picture Puzzle
Using the church’s new icons is going to make our lives so much easier! For this activity, you will enlarge one of the church’s icons to be multiple pages. Download the image for “commandments” and then upload it to this website that will let you enlarge and print it across multiple pages of printer paper. Have the kids put the puzzle together while you sing through the song!
Keep the Commandments Song Story
This “Keep the Commandments” song story is great for little and older kids – the older kids will get excited thinking about getting their own recommend to go to the temple. And the little kids will be engaged by all the questions and answers.
