“Have I Done Any Good?” Singing Time Ideas

“Have I Done Any Good?” will always remind me of President Monson’s talk. I know some might feel like this song is a guilt trip, but to me, it’s a reminder to focus on others.

“Have I Done Any Good?” Bell Charts

Do the melody or harmony using these bell charts! The melody is best done with Kidsplay extended and chromatic bell set, but I still have an 8-note key of C bell chart included!

“Have I Done Any Good?” Conducting with Finger Lights

Teach the kids in your primary how to conduct a 6/8 meter song using finger lights!

  1. Sing through the song while conducting with JUST YOU using a finger light. You can demonstrate the basic 2/2 style pattern or the more complex 6/8 pattern (see the back of the hymnal if these patterns are unfamiliar to you). Have the children mirror you with their fingers.
  2. Pass out the finger lights to the kids to have them join you.
  3. Introduce a challenge! Have the children beat the subdivisions on their chest with their other hand while conducting. This should be fairly simple as the notes tend to fall on each of the 6/8 notes in the song. (this means they will be beating 1-2-3-4-5-6 in each measure, while you’re doing the simple 6/8 pattern)
  4. Turn off the lights in your primary room for the last run-through. Invite a few kids to the front to do the conducting if they like.
