“The Iron Rod” Singing Time Ideas

While not typically included in singing time of the past, it feels very appropriate to be singing for Book of Mormon this year! I love it! The Iron Rod is found in the hymnal.

The Iron Rod Bell Chart (Key of D, Key of D Simple, Key of C)

The thing about bells, is that unless you’ve got the fancy chromatic set, you won’t be able to play and sing along with your accompanist. So I designed my bell charts to be usable by ANY bell set (modify the colors to suit your needs), and complex for those with a complete chromatic set, or simple enough to be used with just the 8-note bell set. You’re going to love it!

The above video was a workshop in Fall 2023 and she demonstrates several different activities for The Iron Rod throughout. It’s a long one to watch, but will be so helpful to you! She uses:

  • Foam Block Rhythm (at 7:15)
  • Hand Actions (at 44:00)
  • Beat vs Rhythm (at 56:00)
  • Paper Plate Actions (at 1:24:00)
  • Clap Instead (at 2:22:00) – great for reviewing
