Once again, another super classic song that the kids might already be familiar with. Enjoy these ideas!
Choose the Right Bell Charts: Extended and Simple
My bell charts are created to work for any bell set. You can modify them to work with your colors, and it doesn’t matter if you have just an 8-note or chromatic set! These are designed to be displayed on a TV in the primary room but can also be copied for your use elsewhere. Enjoy!
Choose the Right Turning Activity
This simple activity will engage your kids and get their bodies and minds moving!
- sing through choose the right one time. Turn your body 90 degrees to the right when you sing the word “right” and 90 degrees to the left when you sing the word “light”.
- Ask the kids to stand and join you sing it through.
- Ask the kids to count how many times you sing “right” and “light” as you sing again.
By now you’ve sung it through 3 times but can add more repetitions by including a “clap instead” concept for certain words as well (like “the” or “and”)
“Choose the Right” Song Story
I typically don’t use song stories for songs with a strong beat because there are so many other fun activities to do with strong-beat songs. However, Choose the Right is such a good song that works well with many different stories. This short version could be used with the first or later verses, as needed.
“Choose the Right” Simple Foam Block Actions
This is a really simple activity that actually does take a little brain power to remember which direction to tap! We go left for “light”, right for “right”, mentions of guiding or marking go forward, and on our heads for blessings, to our heart for “heart confides”.
On the first time through, ask the kids to just watch and follow with their hands while you demonstrate with foam blocks. Then pass out the foam blocks. Repeat the activity 2 more times, freezing occasionally to see if kids are in the same direction as you. For Senior Primary, after a few times through, you can always have the kids partner up and tap each other’s foam blocks on the words “Right” and “Light” on the right and left hands.
This video is mirrored, so when you watch, just follow the directions my hands go to be correctly going right and left.
